What are some certifications in renewable energy

Tested and certified

Our power supply is clean and safe. We are not the only ones who are convinced of this, it has also been certified by external experts for years. The independent experts TÜV NORD and Omnicert Umweltgutachter GmbH check annually whether Greenpeace Energy complies with the demanding electricity criteria of the environmental protection organization Greenpeace.

In addition, like all providers of green electricity & Co., we are registered in the certificate of origin of the Federal Environment Agency.

Greenpeace Energy has been comprehensively audited by TÜV NORD since 2004. The certificate issued annually certifies, among other things, that

  • Greenpeace Energy's green electricity works entirely without electricity from nuclear, coal and oil power plants
  • the supply power plants are independent of the nuclear and lignite industries.

The environmental verifiers and auditors from OmniCert Umweltgutachter GmbH, based in Bad Abbach, check

The result of the review is published in the annual monitoring report.

Greenpeace Energy's green electricity was awarded the “ok-power-plus” seal of approval for the first time in 2017. For the first time, the EnergieVision association, supported by the Freiburg Eco-Institute, has awarded this premium seal to a utility that covers its electricity needs with renewable energies and promotes the energy transition to a particularly high degree.

The magazine “ÖKO-TEST” last assessed green electricity tariffs for private customers in December 2020 and has once again awarded Greenpeace Energy the grade “very good”.

Our business customers also benefit from the positive rating, as our strict electricity criteria apply equally to all customer tariffs. When choosing a new energy provider, ÖKO-TEST advises consumers to find out more about the origin of the electricity. Greenpeace Energy has always published the supplier power plants from which our green electricity comes and is Germany's pioneer in electricity labeling.

EcoTopTen is an Internet platform of the Öko-Institut where consumers and procurers can find recommendations for top ecological products in the ten product clusters of lighting, heating, electricity, large household appliances, small household appliances, televisions, computers / offices, mobility, food and textiles.

There are five general requirements for EcoTopTen products: high quality, reasonable and affordable price, ecological, socially acceptable and support for environmentally friendly and cost-saving use.

Greenpeace Energy meets all criteria for green electricity tariffs and is named among the recommended tariffs.

On January 1, 2013, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) introduced a state register of proof of origin for electricity from renewable energy sources. Germany thus fulfills a requirement of the European Union, which aims to have uniform standards for guarantees of origin across Europe.

The proof of origin certifies in the form of an electronic document where and how electricity from renewable energies was produced and fed into the grid.

This electronic document will be used for electricity labeling after the electricity has been delivered to a consumer and will be canceled after it has been used once.
