What is asked in a recruitment test?
The above questions already give an impression of what a recruitment test can look like. However, it is not possible to predict with 100% certainty which tasks you will be expected to do. Companies compile the tests in order to cover topics and requirements with the questions that are particularly important for candidates. In most cases, such tests are also aimed at identifying qualities and skills that have not yet become apparent in the previous application process. Even without the specific questions, you can prepare for the different categories and types of an employment test:

These questions in the recruitment test require logical thinking. You have to solve puzzles and brain teasers under time pressure and stress. Often these are series of words and numbers that have to be completed. Relationships between different terms are also popular.
TIP: You can't memorize anything. However, it helps to practice logic tasks over and over again - even under time pressure.
Focused work is essential in many areas. That is why the ability to concentrate is often tested in recruitment tests. Often the tasks are about how much you can memorize in a short period of time. Or you can watch videos and be asked about details. Another classic are pictures of different shapes or different surfaces that you have to memorize and answer questions about.
TIP: In advance you can train your concentration and practice suitable tasks. You need to remain calm during the recruitment test. Nervousness and concentration do not go well together.
Applicants have to expect questions about their self-assessment: "What are your values and interests?", "What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?", "How do you resolve conflicts?" HR professionals want to get an idea of your character, the way you work and how you work Do behaviors. The key question behind it: Do you fit into the company and its culture?
TIP: Honest and relentless self-reflection in advance. Deal with your preferences, successes, failures, ways of thinking and your mentality. Those who know themselves and their abilities well remain authentic and convinced.

How long does a recruitment test take?
There is no general answer to this. Recruitment tests can take as little as 20 minutes, but sometimes 3 hours. Depending on whether they run as an independent test or are embedded in an interview. There are also major differences between different professions and employers. The test for administrative clerks, for example, takes an impressive 7 hours. In the Bundeswehr, on the other hand, it "only" takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours. You will often find out in advance to what extent you can be prepared for the test.
How difficult is a recruitment test?
As a rule of thumb, if you are qualified for the job, the recruitment test should be feasible. Of course, there will be some questions that you will struggle with, but with some preparation the test shouldn't be an insurmountable obstacle. Plus, don't worry if you can't think of every answer.
Those who pass more than 70 percent of the questions also pass the recruitment test. In the case of a large number of applicants, however, the standard may be higher. It is also important that you are better than the other candidates and the competition. If the recruitment test has been carried out beforehand, only the best three to ten applicants will then be invited for an interview.
If the recruitment test was too difficult, you are usually out of the selection process. It hurts at first, but it's not the end of the world. Make yourself aware that your written application was so good that you were invited to take the recruitment test. And they had the opportunity to practice such a test under real conditions. Advantages and disadvantages of recruitment tests
From the employer's point of view, filling a vacancy incorrectly costs a lot of money. The selection process itself is time-consuming and costly, and it is even more expensive if a wrong personal decision has to be corrected through transfer, further training, termination and new appointments. So it's understandable that some employers who have had bad experiences so far want to protect themselves. The recruitment test offers a number of advantages (ideally). Applicants' rights in the recruitment test
Unfortunately it happens that not only aptitude questions are asked, but very personal things are asked. For example information about sexual orientation, family planning or pregnancy. In order to give recruitment tests a legal framework and to guarantee quality, DIN 33430 - "Guidelines on the requirements for procedures and their use in job-related aptitude assessments" was created years ago. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that your recruitment test will meet these criteria. But at least you should know your rights as an applicant.
Basically: If personal questions are asked that have no recognizable connection to the later activity, you do not have to answer and may even resort to white lies. Such information has nothing to do with a serious recruitment test. Lying is tricky only if you don't like the question, but it is acceptable. Then you can try to answer evasively. Lies that come out later can have labor law consequences.
