London - Ex- "Beatles" star Paul McCartney has completely renounced drugs.

As the online service "ContactMusic.com" reports, the singer did this for the sake of his wife Heather Mills. She repeatedly asked him not to smoke marijuana any more. McCartney started it with music colleague Bob Dylan in the 1960s and has smoked a joint every now and then. But since he quit, he feels much better, says the singer. His head is much clearer. McCartney: "I've already spoken to a few people who said, 'You speak much more clearly today. You used to mumble a bit'." Although he has a very liberal attitude towards drugs, according to the ex- "Beatle", he now prefers to be sober.

Paul McCartney has had quite a few experiences with drugs in his life. In the 1960s, he not only used marijuana, but also cocaine and heroin. The singer added: "I took it once without really knowing what it was. Heroin didn't look great on me. I was lucky because I would not have liked to go down this steep path" (Fan-Lexikon reported) .

Paul McCartney has been married to Heather Mills since June 11, 2002. On October 28, 2003 daughter Beatrice was born after many complications (Fan-Lexikon reported).
