Is the laundry business in India successful?

Turkey's first Futurail system at Yiğitalp Laundry in Istanbul

How do you assess the market development for laundries in the hotel sector?
“A number of markets are no longer attractive because they are currently losing money, and some are even beginning to break down altogether. The rapid technological development, the demands that an urban lifestyle brings with it, the changing needs of society and the upward and downward trends in the economy are just a few of the reasons. However, some of the previously weaker market segments have developed potential as a result of these upheavals and are now the new beacons of hope. With regard to the current situation in the hotel and catering industry, all market observers agree that the number of new hotel openings in Istanbul and thus also the associated investments will continue to increase, while at the same time the hotels are increasingly outsourcing areas and, among other things, not in in-house laundries will invest. It is not only more economical to outsource this service instead of having such a facility available yourself, you also save a lot of costs, including. for gas, electricity, water, personnel, detergents and depreciation costs, apart from the fact that the space in hotels can be used more profitably for a spa area, meeting rooms, cinema halls, a pool or possibly as a reserve of space, while in hospitals this means more space is available for intensive care units, patient rooms and outpatient facilities. In this way, hotels in particular can strengthen their competitiveness and their profile by increasing their range of services and their quality of service in accordance with the requirements of their customers.

At the same time, hotels have been trying to cut their overheads for a long time and are trying different ways. One possibility is not to provide the hotel's own laundry, thereby saving the associated construction and investment costs and even the costs of the laundry itself. Textile leasing is therefore on the rise. This solution is already very popular with numerous hotels. Our Yiğitalp laundry offers such a leasing service for hotels on request. For the future, we are thinking about investing more in our leasing offers for hotels and concentrating primarily on this model, as do the large laundries in Europe. "

How has the Yiğitalp laundry positioned itself?
“Our company was founded in 1991 as part of Yiğitalp Turizm ve Ticaret A.Ş. and, as a large-scale laundry, has achieved a quality standard that is on par with European standards, thanks to our approach to the highest quality of service and thanks to our hotel management experience. We started out as an in-house business. With the move to our own building, the number of our machines also grew, so that we were finally able to process larger quantities of laundry. This is how the modern laundry we work with today came about. "

Can you tell us something about the products, systems and technologies that are used at Yiğitalp Laundry?
“Yiğitalp Laundry is known in the industry for its close business relationships with companies in the tourism industry in Istanbul. Technically, we are equipped with a tunnel system as well as washing tunnels and dryers from the JENSEN brand. A real competitive advantage arises from the fact that a bag system is integrated into this system, the first in all of Istanbul. I will go into detail on the functional features of this system later.

Thanks to our tunnel system, we can process 40 tons of laundry every day. The chemical detergents that we use come from the production of Diversey Kimya San. A.Ş., which has already proven the quality of its products worldwide. As part of its investment activities, the company has made timely investments in the establishment of a state-of-the-art chemistry room. The laundry we process is delivered to the best hotels in Istanbul with our 10 service vehicles. However, our services are not limited to the washing of textiles, we also offer chemical cleaning of the highest quality. Thanks to the collaborations and partnerships we have entered into, our company is one of the most successful laundries in the industry. In the near future, our services will also be available for the health sector - with precisely this service quality and with growing customer potential. "

How do you differ from other laundries?
“The most important difference is that we originally come from the hotel industry. The Yiğitalp Hotel is indisputably one of the best addresses in the tourism industry. Our greatest advantage is that, thanks to our experience in the hotel and restaurant industry, we know what our customers expect and can tailor our business to their needs. As a service provider in the hotel industry, it is much easier for us to recognize what hotels really need. The customers who choose us as a service provider can entrust us with their laundry with a clear conscience.

Of course, that in itself gives us a decisive advantage, but it is just as important that we are also technically up-to-date in our new laundry. I've already outlined it briefly, but maybe I should go into more detail about our processes at this point.

Let's start with the most basic element of the washing process - water. Many companies do not know anything about the characteristics of the water they use. We, on the other hand, carry out tests every day and influence the water hardness until it is ideal for our detergent, and we continuously check the water for conductivity and other chemical compounds. In the laboratory, which we built especially for this purpose, the water and chemical values and their effects on textiles are carefully examined and documented. On request, we will also make the reports created there available to our customers.

The second element, the detergent that is effective in water, determines the speed of the washing process. We receive excellent support in this area - from Diversey A.Ş. All of our textiles are washed with top quality chemicals. The system is fully automated. Both the tunnel system and the conventional machines work with a dosing system. The detergent is automatically adjusted to the weight of the laundry. In other words, it is no longer up to the individual employee how much detergent to add to the process. Any stains that are still present after processing are also analyzed in our laboratory and we develop special washing programs to remove them. After processing, the whiteness of the laundry can also be checked in our laboratory with a special measuring device. Upon request, customers can receive information about the condition of their laundry. Since we work according to certain standards in our company, we have set up a reporting mechanism that provides that the housekeeping departments of every hotel we work with receive a report at the end of each month.

Spot treatment is another area where we stand out from the competition. We remove stains before washing and have specific intervention strategies so that the stains do not stick permanently to the laundry in the first place.

What distinguishes us most clearly from other laundries, however, is the Futurail bag feeding system integrated into our Senking universal cycle washing system. The tunnel system has become an indispensable part of large laundries. However, our system is even more hygienic: all dirty laundry is routed via a ceiling-mounted rail system. This arrangement saves time and space and ensures a complete separation of dirty and clean laundry. "

Can you explain the system in more detail?
“Tunnel systems have to be constantly loaded with dirty laundry, either via a conveyor belt or manually, as with the old systems. In the most modern system, however, the dirty laundry is completely sorted and collected on the ceiling via a bag feed system and then fed to the washing system from there. The biggest advantage is the space saving. If we take a closer look at the system, it is noticeable that the dirty laundry is never in the floor area. This has hygienic advantages. The system is already widespread in Europe and other industrialized countries, but in Istanbul we are the first to use it. Another aspect is the time benefit that the system offers. If necessary, we can equip the bag system with dirty laundry at night, which is then automatically fed into the washing tunnel in the morning when the systems start up. In addition, the employee who was previously busy entering the laundry can now be deployed elsewhere in the system. Our tunnel system, equipped with bag transport, has 12 chambers and a loading capacity of 50 kg. The tunnels are also divided into different segments. We use a bottom transfer system. This top-class JENSEN technology allows us to easily adjust the water parameters and flexibly create programs. "

Technical specifications

At Yiğitalp Laundry, Istanbul's first gas-heated laundry with a fully automatic bag loading system, the fully automatic laundry solution based on laundry machines from JENSEN was planned and installed. The company TOLON took over sales and maintenance. The head of R&D at TOLON Machinery, Can Tolon, provided information about the systems that are used in the laundry. He emphasized that the 1-tonne Futurail sack system from JENSEN enables greater process flexibility. Can Tolon explains: “Before the washing process is started, the user can separate the hotel laundry. And when finishing the washed laundry or changing the type of laundry, the laundry can also be temporarily stored there for up to 45 minutes until it has been loaded with new laundry. " He explained that a JENSEN tunnel washing machine in the system has 12 chambers with a loading capacity of 50 kg and the hourly washing capacity is between 1.3 tons / hour and 1.5 tons / hour.

“The working pressure of the JENSEN press is 37 bar. The process itself only takes 90 seconds. A fully automatic lifting conveyor belt transports the products from the press to the dryers. The system selects the first free dryer for the drying process. The drying program best suited for the type of laundry can be set. Five gas-heated pass-through dryers from JENSEN with a loading capacity of 50 kg dry a total of 750 kg of laundry in 3 loads per hour. "

TOLON on the ironers and folding machines in the laundry: “A fully automatic gas-heated ironer JENSEN EXPG 2x1.200x3,000 with a flexible trough, which has a capacity of 1000/1200 pieces / hour, is used. In order to increase the quality and efficiency of this ironer line, it is preceded by a JENSEN Jenfeed Logic Plus feeding machine. With its two gas-heated 1,200 mm cylinders, this ironer line can reach a temperature of 230 ° C and a speed of 50 meters / minute. This is followed by an automatic folding machine from JENSEN, which, depending on the size of the laundry, can perform two cross folds and two or three lengthways folds. The two TOLON towel folding machines used in the laundry have a folding capacity of 1,000 pieces / hour / machine with the option of automatic separation via three output points. "

JENSEN-GROUP thanks the deputy chairman of the board Ms. İkbal Yiğitalp Atik for the interview. The Turkish language version can here downloaded. We would also like to thank you for the great work of the TOLON team in Istanbul, which has been responsible for our sales for several years. This year, TOLON is celebrating its 75th anniversary: The company knows the industry like no other, has extensive knowledge of markets and products and is extremely customer-oriented. As a reference installation, Yiğitalp Laundry proves the excellent cooperation between TOLON and the JENSEN-GROUP.
