What are the consequences of the end of support for Windows 10 Mobile?

As of December 10, 2019, Windows 10 Mobile users will no longer be eligible to receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free support options, or online technical updates from Microsoft free of charge. Third-party vendors or paid support programs may provide ongoing support, but it is important to understand that Microsoft Support does not make updates or patches for Windows 10 Mobile publicly available.

Only device models eligible for Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 are supported through the end date. Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 was the last supported operating system version for the Lumia 640 and 640 XL phone models and will expire on June 11, 2019. What does the support process mean for customers?

End of support means that there are no more product or security updates for the Windows 10 Mobile (OS) operating system. This is in line with our lifecycle policy.

After the end of support, the automatic or manual creation of new device backups for settings and some applications will continue for 3 months, ending on March 10, 2020. Some services, including photo uploads and restoring a device from an existing device backup, may function for up to an additional 12 months after support has ended.

Will my apps still be supported?

Apps are subject to the Modern Lifecycle Directive and are independent of the Os Lifecycle Directive. App developers (including Microsoft) can end support for an app at any time. On January 12, 2021, Office apps (Universal Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) will reach the end of support for smartphones with Windows 10 Mobile. Are Lumia devices supported differently than Microsoft devices?

No, the end of support for the Windows 10 Mobile operating system applies to all Windows 10 Mobile devices.

I just bought a Windows 10 Mobile phone. Can I return the phone for a refund?

Microsoft no longer sells or manufactures Window 10 Mobile devices. Please contact the seller directly for a return and refund.

What should Windows 10 Mobile customers do now?

With the end of support for Windows 10 Mobile OS, we recommend that customers switch to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft's mission to empower every person and organization in the world to achieve more forces us to support our mobile apps on these platforms and devices.

Customers who want to continue using their Windows 10 Mobile device after December 10, 2019 should manually create a backup. To do this, select before the expiration date Settings -> Update and Security -> Backup -> More options, then tap Get it now.

How long will existing updates for Windows 10 Mobile be available?

There are currently no plans to stop providing previous updates for Windows 10 Mobile via Windows Update.

Can I still restore my device image?

Yes. You can still use the Windows Device Recovery Tool to deploy the recovery image for your Windows 10 Mobile device. For more information, see Windows Device Recovery Tool: FAQ.

Will my device continue to work after December 10, 2019?

Yes. Your Windows 10 Mobile device should continue to work after December 10, 2019, but updates (including security updates) will no longer be provided and back-end services such as: B. the device backup are terminated as described above.

How can I tell if I have a Windows 10 mobile device?

To find out which Windows Phone operating system version is installed on your phone, do the following:
