How do we protect emails from spammers

This is how you protect yourself from unwanted spam e-mails

Anyone with an email account knows spam. It is the unwanted e-mails from unknown senders. Mostly it concerns unauthorized advertising mails. Sometimes an alleged friend calls in, who arouses curiosity about the attached malicious file, or "your" bank, who asks for a data comparison.

In the best case scenario, spam emails only cost time. However, it can also be expensive if sensitive data is stolen (phishing emails) or malicious programs such as viruses and Trojans damage your computer (malware emails).

This is how you can protect yourself from spam

Technical protection:

  • Regularly update your anti-virus program, operating system, and any other software you use.
  • Set up a spam filter in your e-mail program.

  • Don't give out your email address carelessly.
  • Do not take part in competitions on the Internet.
  • Do not show your email address on social media platforms and other sites.
  • Use different email addresses for work / family and internet purchases, newsletters, etc.
  • Do not reply to spam emails - not even to unsubscribe from them. This only confirms that your email address is up to date.
  • Also protect the email address of third parties. Circular mails can be sent as "bcc" (= "blind copy").

Recognize spam and respond correctly

  • Check the sender carefully before opening any email. Especially those with an attention-grabbing subject, such as "Your registration", "Open bill", "Want to meet you"
  • If you are unsure whether the e-mail is from the alleged company or person, contact them in another way.
  • Never open attached files from emails from unknown senders!
  • Never click on a link in spam emails!
  • Delete spam emails!
