Summer school

Summer school - even more knowledge

Acquiring a new perspective on knowledge in the summer can give a new impetus to learning. With our exciting summer vacation courses tailored to learner types, we take the wind out of the sails of the otherwise performance-centered character that is all too often attached to learning. Through our courses, your child will see the world with new eyes and will never get enough of learning.

What are summer schools?

Participation in a summer school is not only booming at universities. Also, and especially with children, courses in the context of a summer school provide a considerable service for intellectual development. In the classic sense, a summer school describes the holding of multi-week block seminars at a university during the lecture-free period, with a particular topic usually in the foreground. However, this concept was also applied to a target group for children.

The summer school especially for children is a consequence or further development of so-called “children's universities”, in which the pupils can come into contact with scientific topics through simplified forms of communication. This concept of the summer school for children, devised by Austrian universities, is defined by a program of events as a holiday program or by days of action for families (cf. Dernbach / Kleinert / Münder, 2012).

Nowadays, various universities often offer children's camps, e.g. in the summer or autumn holidays, such as theUniversity of Cologne, which offers a scientific project week for children from 6 to 10 years. There they can experiment themselves in school laboratories. Also theUniversity of Paderborn offers a summer camp for children in grades 3 to 7, where they can go on an adventure trip with playful language training and creative development opportunities.

With us, the summer school is designed in such a way that we offer online courses for children on different topics and subjects. The number of hours of the respective courses can be varied and is not tied to a specific number of hours. So you can stay flexible during the holidays and plan other activities.

Who is our summer school for?

Our summer school is recommended for all children who are likely to be bored during the holidays. Even children with a particularly high thirst for knowledge or an above-average perception will be satisfied with the courses at our summer school.

But every child who is willing to learn and who wants to learn something new will also enjoy our summer school. Does your child really feel the tingling of trying something new or does it generally not get along for a long time without new knowledge? Then our summer school really gets its money's worth.

But a summer school is also a stroke of luck for socially disadvantaged students. Several years ago, the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of Baden-Württemberg created the concept of a summer school especially for pupils with special needs. The aim of this summer school is to impart interdisciplinary, social, personal and methodological skills. This is primarily about the interweaving of theoretical knowledge acquisition with creative, practical application of knowledge. Horizons of experience should also be opened up and adventures made possible (cf. Brucksch-Vieth / Scheiring, 2014).

The methods we use are also designed in such a way that your child's urge to discover is stimulated and they can develop knowledge themselves. This further increases his discipline and ambition. Curious minds and spirits are spot on in our courses - we have the right input ready for everyone!

Difference: summer school and school lessons

While the children in school are often presented with content at random and without a suitable context, the focus of our summer school is that the children are free to choose their content. In addition, when learning with the supervisor, it is always kept open what your child will learn next. This is entirely up to your child's preference, spontaneous adjustments to the curriculum are always possible. The design of the lesson in terms of content and structure is therefore a lot more flexible and also takes individual interests into account.

In addition, despite online lessons, your child will experience much closer and more constructive care from one of our teachers. The teacher always gets in the right mood for the student and is available for all possible questions and uncertainties. Nevertheless, care is taken to ensure that independence is always actively promoted through the learning units, as your child acquires most of the content themselves in a stimulating way - through entertaining learning methods such as didactically proven games. The teacher combines the role of a helping hand in given situations and a background actor who evokes the potential of your child behind the scenes in one. In this way, your child becomes more independent in learning, which will also benefit him in the following school year.

Another difference between our summer school and conventional school lessons is that the summer school is not about dealing with content according to a strict curriculum or achieving a specific performance goal in the end. In our summer courses, intuitive and informal learning full of fun comes first. Learning should therefore not take place out of constraints, but out of one's own will. The possibilities range from learning without a direct profitable purpose to targeted compensation of learning deficits to preparation for the coming school year or the next level.

Why should my child study when the weather is nice?

Most of us naturally combine classic holidays with relaxation, vacations and many sporting or amusing activities. For many, learning is not on the agenda during this period. But targeted learning units in addition to the main leisure program can make a big difference. It is not at all necessary for your child to spend a large part of their week studying, often scattered teaching units are enough to achieve a lasting effect on your child's learning ability.

If your child learns regularly during the holidays as part of a summer school, e.g. by recapitulating school material from the previous school year with new, exciting learning methods, the knowledge is retained much better in the memory. In this way, your child can get off to a flying start in the next school year. By maintaining a learning regularity during the summer holidays, your child will also deal with the automatically higher learning input in the next school year. Because the more often you take in new knowledge in small doses and repeat it continuously, the more adaptive the brain becomes and its perception increases.

In addition, during the summer school your child can, if necessary, get a taste of new areas of knowledge in their favorite subjects and thus possibly gain a small head start in the next school year. In any case, it is worth investing some time in learning during the holidays, as this saves your child the laborious and exhausting return to everyday school life and annoying repetition.

In addition, our teachers provide great learning methods and resources that are absolutely compatible with typical summer deliberation, such as games in electronic form, puzzles, puzzles, quizzes, etc. Our teachers do their utmost to enable entertaining learning .

Haven't you planned anything for the summer yet?

If your child doesn't have any plans for this summer, this could be a good opportunity to take part in our summer school courses. For example, our online lessons are ideal when most of your offspring's friends have flown out. In addition, participation in the online courses can be a good outlet to direct the circulating thoughts into orderly, meaningful paths. Especially if your child is very agile and cannot rest long without learning something new, they will find their place in the summer school.

With our summer school courses, we feed your child's brain in a creative, interactive and exciting way. It will have pleasure in acquiring new things and may soon be looking for like-minded people with whom it can share its knowledge of its areas of interest and exchange ideas. Register your child for summer school now and let them share in the fascination of knowledge. The skills we have acquired through play will open up many new doors and opportunities for him.
