Family - job - career

This anthology is an inventory of the compatibility of family life (looking after children and caring for family members) and working life. The focus is on an expanded concept of compatibility, which includes a career in the sense of successful participation in the labor market - and not just doing a job. Using data from Austria and Germany, the authors show the main characteristics of problems relating to reconciliation and present instruments that can contribute to an improved reconciliation of family, work and career and thus also to gender equality. In addition to the possibilities, limits, such as physical or emotional stress, but above all financial failures and career disadvantages, are also discussed.

The content

• Data on reconciliation and effects on labor market opportunities and the gender gap in wages and pensions in connection with (lack of) reconciliation

• Institutional framework of reconciliation policy

• Instruments for equality between women and men: analysis of existing policies and recommendations
