Why are environmental scientists important

The profile field of ecology and environmental sciences at the University of Bayreuth

Top international research, excellent training

How do organisms react to their environment? How do communities and ecosystems work? What can we expect in view of climate change, changes in land use and diverse pollution of the environment? And how can we preserve biological diversity and ecosystem services and secure our livelihoods in the long term?

These core research topics are examined in the profile field across disciplines from bio- and geosciences. We combine basic research with questions about protection and use, we combine controlled laboratory tests and field experiments with the documentation of natural patterns and processes.
The core topics are supplemented by applied questions from environmental law, environmental informatics and technologies in three further faculties.

We research on a local, regional and global level. The Bayreuth Center for Ecology and Environmental ResearchBayCEER supports researchers with a comprehensive infrastructure and service structure - from laboratories and examination areas to the organization of workshops, meetings and conferences and transdisciplinary networking.
The ecological-botanical garden is active in teaching and research and is a nationally known figurehead in environmental education.

The result: top international research in the fields of global change, biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental protection as well as excellent training for young researchers and students.
